Holz (Daily Bread Author) says; Together we stand firm when life's headwinds gust our way together . Does this quote resonate well with you? We have witnessed nations like South Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Denmark were quite successful in their efforts to contain the global virus. When people from nations are united, they can achieve positive results despite life’s headwinds such as covid-19  that took the lives of people by the thousands daily. But when people play the blame game, the repercussions are just too enormous. The system that was thought to be stable, strong, and envied in nations have failed. Even nations w

An older sister's failing health

Instead of sticking with my Saturday plan to sit down in front of my laptop and stop my procrastination regarding the final pages of my long overdue thesis chapters 1 and 2, i decided to drive my way to my parents house where an older sister lives with her family. The last time i visited her was sometime this October and except for her kidney failure, weekly dialysis  and being bed ridden. She looked fine and able to have regular food.
This afternoon on a fine  December 28th, her husband led me to my sister's room together with Jimboh my dog, i was so surprised to see her so thin, her skin so pale and dry, her body muscles are starting to sag and bones starting to be visible. Her scaling skin started to darken. Flashback about my fathers same appearance before he passed on.
With the  family's financial resources already  drained due to expensive dialysis treatments ( twice a week) and other medical expenses,   i kept wondering the whole afternoon visit of how long could they sustain. I see helplessness and surrender on the face of my brother in law who just recently came home from a 20 years or so stay in Aruba as an overseas worker. At their senior years supposed to enjoy the fruits of their labor, i just realized how serious sickness can strike and can be financial nightmare.
While i drove back home, i kept on reflecting on why would this happen to my older sister? All there is to do at these trying moments is to alleviate her pain and keep up our faithful prayers.
I constantly pray for the whole family to be strong and strengthen their faith that at the end of all this, my  older sister will no longer suffer.
As we all grow older we all deserve a  good quality of life, only the Lord knows when the suffering of my sister will stop. God bless her
