(This post contains Affiliate Links:  Visit the  Disclosure  Page for more details:) WHY GOD NEVER INTENDED FOR US TO FLY ALONE A famous quote coming from Adam R. Holz (Daily Bread Author) says; Together we stand firm when life's headwinds gust our way together . Does this quote resonate well with you? We have witnessed nations like South Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Denmark were quite successful in their efforts to contain the global virus. When people from nations are united, they can achieve positive results despite life’s headwinds such as covid-19  that took the lives of people by the thousands daily. But when people play the blame game, the repercussions are just too enormous. The system that was thought to be stable, strong, and envied in nations have failed. Even nations w

An older sister's failing health

Instead of sticking with my Saturday plan to sit down in front of my laptop and stop my procrastination regarding the final pages of my long overdue thesis chapters 1 and 2, i decided to drive my way to my parents house where an older sister lives with her family . The last time i visited her was sometime this October and except for her kidney failure , weekly dialysis   and being bed ridden. She looked fine and able to have regular food.        This afternoon on a fine  December 28th, her husband led me to my sister's room together with Jimboh my dog, i was so surprised to see her so thin, her skin so pale and dry, her body muscles are starting to sag and bones starting to be visible. Her scaling skin started to darken. Flashback about my fathers same appearance before he passed on.        With the  family's financial resources already  drained due to expensive dialysis treatments ( twice a week) and other medical expenses,   i kept wondering the whole afternoon v

Thank you Year 2103

Year 13 was so kind enough. What used to be unclear since 2010 when i decided to come home started to get clearer this year. My 2011 goal frame work is now in  motion and starting to become a reality. Thank you for the support of some who believed in my capacity and thanks too to those who doubted and continue to be a challenge. There is nothing more difficult than to be trying my best to re establish in a birth place but have been away for at least 25 years. The culture shock and the realization of having to return and re establish at an age when one is supposed to be made. A distinct disadvantage for a returning OFW .              This year  i have encountered a family member, an in law or a friend who are not in the best of health, then i always (everyday) give thanks to our dear lord for the good health. When i think of the victims of calamities nationally and globally and looking at the faces and tears of their loved ones, i thank  our dear lord  (everyday) from spa

Oligopoly in play

The end consumers will ultimately pay the price when such type of competition as Oligopoly is allowed. Missing in Action: President Aquino and the Meralco rate hike scandal

Bye second semester ends, Hello third semester

As the school year 2013-2014 second semester has just ended, with all the paper works and grade submission deadlines done,  finally a much needed break is needed. I look forward to having a peaceful holiday at home with  Jimboh , avoid the maddening crowd at the mall , noise pollution and traffic.           I contemplate on my self assessed performance, which i normally do every end of the semester,  i know i will  be better every time a  new semester  comes in.  The same way it took me 25 years to be good with what i used to do in my corporate work. I look back at my students who performed well and for those who did not perform. At the end of the day, it is their good future anyway. I have always reminded all my students that jobs have become highly intellectual and it is very important to be highly competitive. The training begins in the classroom. Gone are those earlier years  when  most jobs started at the factories. Service oriented jobs in the country is on the rise

Pay YourTaxes

There is a lot of talk in the media about taxes lately. As an ordinary tax payer,  the first thing that comes into mind is the present level of basic services that we have.  I am not just convinced about the quality of the basic services extended by government. I do not disagree with paying taxes, but i definitely agree on having a better quality basic services in return. High taxes in advanced countries are fully enforced while the quality of life is better.        The "pambasang kamao" was not spared from the controversial tax issue. The Bureau of Internal Revenue is after the pacman. Now the Internal Revenue of the US says the pacman has an unpaid taxes for the amount of US$18 million according to the latest news, if this is true, this is Php 796 million.          While taxes are automatically deducted from the common employee's salary, i would not trade places right now with the pacman even for a second. Check Point

It seems my present country of residence will not run out of controversies, tragedies, calamities. The new year started with stray bullets that hit and killed innocent children, then immediately after was a shooting spree some barangay away from where my wife's place, then immediately after was a shoot out - rub out according to some outspoken groups. Strange enough the place where this ...... out happened is someplace where my mother comes from. Now comes a new controversy about bonuses, savings in the senate during the christmas holidays. Two prominent figures exchanging accusations over the public radio, i really wonder where our beloved country  is headed to? Fortunately thanks to my deep religious faith, my hopes and faith in this country remains. Before i get lost, back to  my main topic, people are getting too paranoid about military and/or police check points nowadays, immediately after the shoot out incident. In my 16 years of stay in the African continent, military /

What a way to end the year

The Philippine economy went ballistic 2012 , the stock exchange index closed at 5,812.73 points with a year gain of  33 percent. The economy was also close to being upgraded to investment grade. According to economic experts, the much improved economic conditions in the country gained a high confidence level by foreign investors. The question is, does the country's poor masses really feel the supposed improved economy? Experts are quick to say that the poor will not "immediately" feel the positive impact of the improved economy. The question remains, then when? We also watched with amusement a lot of high profile personalities being exposed of their alleged corrupt practices that involves large amounts of money. Just the other day, i was watching a video that was released over the internet showing men in uniform grabbing over confiscated illegal firecrackers like children scrambling over candies from a broken clay pot. What a shame ! Tragedies by some strange
